Rockaby by Samuel Beckett
Having received permission from the Estate to translate Samuel Beckett’s hauntingly beautiful short play Rockaby into Irish (Gaelic), we are now looking for possible venues, partners and production dates to stage the piece in Ireland.
It would have to be staged with one or more other pieces in order to make a full ”evening of theatre” of it, for, depending on production design, Rockaby is only between 14-20 minutes long.
Of course, the first order of business is finding a partner and a venue in Ireland willing to consider an Irish-language Rockaby on its own merits. Adding to it, with Irish or English language pieces, becomes a relatively easy secondary task.
The good news is we’ve received encouragement from some in the Irish-language arts community in Ireland to pursue this dream. We’ll update our progress here as things develop!
